Apparently, this year we can throw the rule book out the window when it comes to weddings, according to Vogue.uk the biggest wedding trend for 2020 is “individuality”. From sustainability, to creative cakes and statement pieces, we can expect a whole lot of personality coming through from our bridal couples.

Sustainable Weddings

With any event, whether it is a wedding, a corporate gig or a party, there tends to be a lot of unnecessary waste, and a large carbon footprint to boot!

This year we expect to see many eco-conscious couples looking to see how they can create a more sustainable wedding celebration. This suits us just fine here at Cloughjordan House; our ethos is all about seasonal and sustainable – from our home grown flowers and veggies to our seasonal share menus.

Here are some of our other top hints to try to reduce your wedding footprint:

  • Wedding stationary; consider using recycled paper, or better still send emails and set up a wedding website - zero waste! Confetti.ie offers some useful hints in their article, ‘The Best Wedding Website Builders to Know’

  • Work with your venue to make sure you utilise all elements of décor they offer, here at Cloughjordan House we provide all decoration, including beautifully printed menus on recycled paper

  • Borrowing decorations from a recently married friend, or hiring in elements from local suppliers, means you won’t be creating extra waste from your big day

  • Retro dresses are very ‘in’ at the moment. It might take you longer to find but many wedding boutiques across Ireland are re-purposing vintage wedding gowns with modern materials and touches. This article offers some great suggestions of boutiques you could visit to find the perfect dress!

Bride’s Speech

Who rule the world!? That’s right ladies, girls rule the world. Many brides are ditching the traditional speeches format and opting to make a speech – we say absolutely, go for it!

Creative Cakes

We have come a long way from the traditional fruit and marzipan cake, these days anything goes. We expect in 2020 that brides and grooms will go all out to ensure they have a unique and interesting cake. If you need a little inspo, check out Brides.com article ’30 Modern Wedding Cakes’… be prepared to drool.

Statement Pieces

From killer heels to ‘out there’ statement jewellery, we anticipate brides and grooms will be bold in 2020.

Expect the likes of floral headpieces, unique veils and daring pops of colour in wedding décor. Grooms aren’t missing out, long gone are the days when the groom was a shrinking violet next to his beautiful bride (or groom!). More and more grooms are opting to don mixed materials, colourful blazers, trousers or waistcoats to add a touch of individuality to their outfits.

Fuss-free hair

Now while brides and grooms might be making a statement with their garments, we are seeing more and more fuss-free hair styles but with additions of headbands, bows or even turbans. WeddingWire.com gives a good rundown of what we might see in 2020.

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaid dress styles are likely to embrace the individuality trend in 2020, with many brides opting to let their besties choose their own outfits or designs. Mixing and matching is okay, uniformity is no longer the hard and fast rule.

Couple cocktails

Cocktails are in in 2020. Many couples are choosing to serve individual cocktails with special relevance to their relationship. For instance, here at Cloughjordan House we have seen couple’s naming their special drinks after important dates in their relationship, inside jokes or even pets.

Hopefully this has given you some food for thought; we are excited about what 2020 might bring!
